Mermaid Cake by Jill McC.

Jill McC  Made a Mermaid Cake

"using the liquid (cabbage) blue for the icing,
plus a pinch of baking soda makes it more ocean green/blue color.

The frosting came out great (a simple buttercream with pinches of
baking soda added until I got the right color; then it got darker over time,

which made it really ocean color)!

And here's the website I got the idea from, to make sure credit goes where due

You can roll and cut modeling chocolate for the mermaids, shape it into balls for
the borders and use it for the starfish.
Paint or shimmer dust can create fun accents, as well!

Baking Blue Swirls in cake with Vegetable Color

Talina B made this cake for her 4 year old daughter
After cooking the purple cabbage became a nice blue for the practice cake. For some reason when I   did the actual birthday cake though it had completely faded though the only difference I can think of is that there was more batter used and it  had to cook longer. It was still good though!

From doing the practice cake I realized the powders worked better
for a bright color than the liquid I used here.

I got a lot of compliments and when I said it was naturally colored I got the
response "Really?"     I used the light blue color powder with spirulina to color the white Wilton fondant to make the snowflakes as well as color the frosting.

The blue liquid color didn't come out as bright but I ended up using it Frozen Cake with Spirulina Blue Powderto color
vanilla ice cream to great effect. All I had to do was ask the kids " Who wants blue ice cream? " and they almost all said us! and it made nice rivulets of dark blue in the ice cream.

Well, I look forward to doing business with you again soon!
I have my sons "chibi samurai" 1st birthday cake to make where I have a
katana sword mold I was going to use red chocolate and the chocolate writer to decorate.:)
Thanks!
